How I Got My Start

Since the main reason I am doing this blog has to do with sewing I am going to start by talking about how I became to sew.

The first encounter I remember was when I was 8. I made a "baby dress" for my cousin when my aunt was still pregnant with her. Of course, I didn't actually give it to her because it was crap. haha But I remember it was when I was 8 because of how old my cousin is.

I didn't start sewing a fair amount until I was about 11 or so. I started by reconning shirts and handsewing. I actually handsewed a few shirts and a dress and a few skirts before I learned how to use my mom's sewing machine when I was 15. When I was 18, and graduating from high school, I took the leap to making my own grad dress. Which turned out to be a hit! I'll post pictures later on. :) I sew everything by my own patterns. Or without patterns. I've tried using a commercial pattern a few times and it failed. I'd much rather just make it up as I go or sketch out my own pattern.

And since then I've gotten my own sewing machine, still hoping for a serger some day when I can afford it, and started sewing plenty more. And hope to continue sewing and improving in my techniques and ideas. :)
